Pevion Biotech and AlgoNomics establish collaboration for rational vaccine development
Bern, Switzerland and Ghent, Belgium, February 25 2004 - Pevion Biotech and AlgoNomics start a collaboration to rationally design RSV-derived peptides for use in vaccines.
Responding to questions Dr Ignace Lasters, CEO of AlgoNomics, said: “This collaboration underlines the relevance of rational peptide design in the field of vaccine development. The development time of a vaccine is considerably shortened through this approach providing Pevion Biotech with a competitive advantage.”
AlgoNomics’ Tripole™ technology combines extensive protein modelling know-how with the latest peptide design techniques to explore the interaction between peptides and proteins. Combining structural bio-informatics and in vitro peptide analysis, AlgoNomics will unveil specific peptide sequence motifs that elicit a strong and protective antibody response when formulated with Pevion Biotech’s proprietary virosome technology.
“The combination of synthetic, rationally designed peptide epitopes together with our market approved adjuvant/carrier platform PeviPRO™ generates an almost synthetic vaccine, which will show the beneficial safety and side effect profile as seen by the already marketed virosomal vaccines. The collaboration is entered upon for one and a half years.
